Rules

Rules allow you to automatically change various app settings for provisioned users. Although sometimes called rule mappings, it's important to distinguish rules from user mappings and role mappings:

  • User mappings, or simply mappings, provide a high level of user provisioning that allows you to assign large groups of users a wide variety of attributes, roles, and groups.
  • Roles are used to assign entire groups of applications to many users at once.

Rules, on the other hand, are specific to a single application and the users' settings within that application. For example, if a given app allows you to designate users as administrators, you could create a rule for that app that assigsn administrator status to any user with the text "admin" in their job title in OneLogin.

Go to the Rules page of your app configuration and click Add Rule or select an existing rule to configure it.

Choose your rule's Conditions and Actions. For example, you might establish that any users with "admin" in their title who are not currently trainees are given Admin status in the app. When ready, click Save. The rule(s) will now automatically be applied to any new users meeting the criteria you've set.

Note: Rules cannot use the following special characters: ( ) * + \

The actions available to you will vary by application. For more information on which settings you can map to OneLogin for any given app, refer to its app-specific documentation.

Rule Configuration

When an app has multiple rules, they're applied in the order listed, so in the event of any conflicts between rules, the higher-numbered rule will take precedence. Drag-and-drop your rules to change their order.

Multiple Rules

Best Practice: After creating or updating any app's rules, always Reapply entitlement mappings from the More Actions menu to commit your changes to the existing users.
